The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) celebrated the International Day of Older Persons which falls on October 1st every year, by organizing a field visit program to the Geriatrics Unit at Rashid Hospital in Dubai, including a number of directors of FAHR sectors and departments, and employees. Apart from distributing gifts to the elderly, FAHR staff engaged with the elderly and spent time talking to them and listened to their stories.
The team was received by Dr. Amal Al Jaziri, Head, Geriatrics Unit at Rashid Hospital, and Dr. Ahmed Al Foul, specialist at elderly care unit.
In this context, Aisha Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of HR Policies, FAHR, explained that the elderly people in the United Arab Emirates have been enjoying special care for their contribution in the development of their communities. She cited the tremendous efforts made by the UAE to provide them with health, social and psychological as a significant segment of the UAE society.
She said: “Caring for the elderly is a personal and collective responsibility, and an integral part of social, cultural and religious values inherent in Emirati people. The UAE cannot forget the efforts and sacrifices of the founding fathers who engineered the Union and laid the foundation for toddy’s achievements in various levels. Laws and policies have been enacted by the UAE Government to ensure a decent life to the elderly people”.
Mahmoud Al Marzouki, Director of Government Communications noted that the community initiative comes as part of 12:12:12 series launched by FAHR, in 2015, with a view to introduce 12 community initiatives by FAHR’s 12 departments in 12 months.
He added: “The 12:12:12 initiatives aim at increasing the participation of FAHR in social work and involvement of all departments and the largest number of employees in community activities so as to enhance the role of FAHR in this important area, and bring positive social changes through our initiatives, internally and externally to the benefit of the various segments of society”.
