The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources played a
pivotal role in preparing for the implementation of the new workweek system at
the Federal Government sector, which was announced by the UAE Government at the
end of 2021, to take force as of the beginning of 2022. where the actual
working days became four and a half working days, from the day on. Monday to
Thursday, half working days on Friday, and Saturday and Sunday weekends.
The Authority had submitted a proposal for
the new system of weekly work and included it with normative studies at the
level of countries in the region and a comprehensive feasibility study to
monitor the expected results in terms of raising labor productivity in the
government sector, stimulating the economic movement in the country by
increasing local consumption, as well as strengthening family and community
relations.
The new system is aimed at strengthening the UAE's position on the
business map as a global economic center, as it will contribute to integration
of the national economy with various economies and markets worldwide. The move
will also ensure smooth financial, trade and economic transactions with countries
that follow a Saturday/Sunday weekend, facilitating stronger international
business links and opportunities for thousands of UAE-based and multinational
companies.
Moreover, the new workweek is expected to support the financial
sector, by harmonizing with working days in international stock exchanges,
financial markets, and international banks, thus enhancing the performance of
stock markets, banks, insurance companies, and foreign trade in the country.
It is expected that the new system will improve performance and
productivity of the government work, enhance the country's competitiveness and
consolidate its position among the world's best countries for working and living,
and support the flexibility of government work and its ability to quickly adapt
to any changes and developments around the world, enhance performance and
productivity, and establish the quality of life in the work environment.
