The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) recently held the 8th Human Resources Club Forum for 2019, entitled “Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Data in Human Resources”, in cooperation with Sharjah Human Resources Directorate. The event hosted Mr. Daoud Abu Qasheh, Vice President, Bloovo Middle East.
The forum, which was held in Sharjah, was attended by HE Dr. Tariq Sultan Bin Khadem, Member of Sharjah Executive Council, Chairman of Sharjah Human Resources Directorate; HE Laila Obaid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Programs and Human Resources Planning; HE Aisha Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of Human Resource Policies, from the Authority, more than 500 Club associates, and federal government and Sharjah government employees.
The forum highlighted the importance of taking advantage of big data and artificial intelligence techniques in developing institutional work, as well as the most important skills that institutions need to utilize artificial intelligence techniques, and growth opportunities AI creates.

HE Dr. Abdulrahman Abdul Mannan Al Awar, Director General of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, explained that the holding of the forum in the Emirate of Sharjah comes in implementation of the recommendations of the UAE Government’s annual meetings to expand the activities of Human Resources Club forums to cover all emirates in order to meet the needs of HR professionals and those interested in the interest field.
He explained that the HR Club is an interactive platform that brings together HR professionals and those interested in human capital development, under one roof to discuss latest developments in the field and review experiences, knowledge, main challenges and innovative solutions related to human capital development.

HE Dr. Tariq Sultan Bin Khadem, Member of Sharjah Executive Council, Chairman of Sharjah Human Resources Directorate, stressed the importance of using big data and artificial intelligence in the service of human resources. According to HE, the data of artificial intelligence play a crucial role in enabling HR departments to utilize this kind of technology and strategic planning of human resources according.
He said: “Artificial intelligence has a huge impact on the global job market, especially in terms of creating new and innovative jobs,” stressing the importance of cooperation between all parties concerned with the development of human capital in the country, to develop the human resources system, enhance the efficiency and productivity of human capital, and consolidate the UAE’s prestigious global position in this field.
Artificial intelligence and human resources
Mr. Dawood Abu Qasheh, Vice President, Bloovo Middle East, shed light on the latest global trends in utilizing modern technologies, including artificial intelligence in human resources management, e.g. employmnt, training and development, and career growth.
He said: “Artificial intelligence has contributed significantly to increasing the efficiency of employment system and attracting talents. Companies are now using many artificial intelligence systems and applications in evaluating the efficiency of candidates applying to fill vacancies, which enables these companies to recruit the most qualified personnel and allows for closely monitoring employment indicators.”
Abu Qasheh added: “Artificial intelligence has been a crucial factor in improving the employee’s life cycle within an organization. It has drastically changed the traditional concepts and methods regarding employee engagement, and, at same time, it allows institutions to explore employee views on various topics and issues that concern them in the work environment. In short, artificial intelligence technologies have become an integral part of the business system of any organization wishing to keep pace with the rapidly changing developments.”
He stressed that many institutions around the world have become highly dependent on artificial intelligence techniques in training and empowering employees, so as to increase the attractiveness of work environments in those institutions, and make them a destination for talents and people with expertise and skills.
Artificial intelligence: Challenges and Opportunities for use
Mr. Dawood Abu Qasheh highlighted the most important challenges facing institutions when implementing artificial intelligence technologies. These challenges include: involving employees and integrating them into the work environment; lack of experts and specialists in artificial intelligence, employee resistance to change and fear of a shift towards smart technologies that lack emotional intelligence.
He said: "Many institutions are currently using some smart human resource applications that allow analysing employee personality and attitudes, and accordingly propose logical solutions to improve the work environment and develop employee performance. There are also highly sophisticated human resource systems that determine the need for specific skills in the labor market, based on available vacancies."
He concluded his speech by saying that artificial intelligence systems have become widely used in institutions to analyse and evaluate employee performance, as well as study the skills an institution needs in the future, based on specific indicators and data entered into these systems, that ensure reaching an accurate set of conclusions and recommendations.
