The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) marked the UAE Innovation Week, by organizing an interactive workshop titled " Future Workforce Trends & Challenges in 2030", in cooperation with the HAY Group for Management Consulting. The workshop was attended by HE Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Director General of the Authority, along with sector and department directors and employees of the Authority,.
The workshop highlight global workforce trends and needs in the future labor markets, in the face of increasing competition between organizations around the world to attract and retain competent labor.
Participants emphasized the importance of the role leaders play in enhancing employees’ confidence through adopting positive practices in the work environment. This requires building strong relationships with their direct reports, opening up channels for effective communication with them, preferably face-to face, and appreciating their efforts and outstanding achievement. They noted that what distinguishes the younger generation of employee is that they are not obsessed with job titles and formal and official positions, they rather focus on skills.
The workshop keynote speaker stressed that the great leader is the one who takes into account the needs of different generations within his organization. He said that leaders should provide employees with guidance on how to act ethically, socially and professionally; fair and flexible treatment, opportunity for career development and progress based on merit and performance, material and technological resources, as well as recognition and motivate on an ongoing basis.
He said that there is a set of traits and characteristics that are essential for the future leader, namely: strategic thinking, openness to other cultures, the ability to instill loyalty within the organization, employee involvement in decision-making and delegation of some powers to them.
The workshop reviewed a number of studies and research on the future of human capital, and highlighted the challenges ahead for organizations in attracting and retaining talent. By the end of the workshop a brainstorming session was held involving FAHR employees during which they discussed ways to empower future human resources and meet their needs and aspirations
