The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has organized a free of charge training session titled “An Introduction to Project Management” attended by a number of federal government ministries and entities, as part of the “Ma’arif Initiative for training services providers preferred by the federal government.
The training session, which was held in cooperation with the “New Horizon” training institute in Abu Dhabi, has focused on introducing the best practices applied at international level in project management and the relevant major and subsidiary operations, in addition to the main elements necessary for ensuring project success; which put together are believed to stand as the cornerstone for the success of any given institution.
The session facilitator commenced his presentation by talking about the pivotal requirements that should be made available for managing any project and the importance of the planning stage, which is considered an integral component of the management process. He emphasized the indispensability of each stage of the various stages of project management, particularly the first stage of estimating expected cost of the proposed project and the time framework expected before commencement of implementation. This requires in-depth planning and extensive study which would ensure success in implementing the remaining stages of the project.
The training session covered a number of key issues, including the project administration circle and the pivotal role to be played by the project director, the importance of determining the scope of the project, the practical skills to be displayed by the project team, the identification of risks and hurdles that might hinder the progress of the project and methods to be adopted to analyze and sort out such risks and hurdles promptly and the mechanism for setting out a time schedule for the various stages of the project.
The trainees were engaged in acquiring the necessary skills of setting a plan for communication with other members of the project team, how to start the first practical steps in the process of project implementation, the methodology for following up the progress of project implementation, as well as how to prepare regular work progress reports.
The “Ma’arif” initiative aims to create a partnership based upon social responsibility and mutual interest between public and private sectors and ensure the provision of quality training for approximately 84,000 employees working for 56 federal ministries and entities, and to meet training needs in a manner that satisfies the requirements of the training and development system for federal government employees. It also aims at achieving cost effective budgeting of training programs within federal governmental entities which entails ensuring the engagement of the maximum possible number of employees in such programs, that is in addition to enhancement of efficiency and productivity and the creation of an attractive work environment in the federal government, as well as providing convenient facilitation for federal entities to select the most appropriate training courses directly online within prescribed time frameworks.
