The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) recently held a free training course entitled "Brainstorming: A Creative Technique Problem Solving," which was attended by dozens of employees working in ministries and federal entities. The course was organized as part of a series of training courses offered free of charge by FAHR under "Ma’aref" initiative for the federal government’s preferred training partners, launched last year for the first time at the Federal Government level, to compile a list of the best training providers in the UAE and make it available to the federal ministries and authorities to take advantage of training programs at reduced rates or free of charge.
The main objective of the 2-day course organized by FAHR at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with Centre for Organizational Development "CODE", was to develop the participants’ skills in institutional innovation and creative thinking, as well as help them solve problems that may occur in the work environment in a collective manner through effective group thinking and teamwork, and familiarize them with the concept of institutional innovation, in order to achieve sustainable excellence in any organization.
The most important topics the training session addressed included: the concept and different aspects of institutional innovation, factors that help to enhance it within an institution, how to create an environment conducive to innovation, the concept of brainstorming and its central role as an effective creative tool in solving problems and generating ideas, as well as brainstorming principles and rules, the optimal time limit for a brainstorming.
Participants were trained on the steps and stages of performing brainstorming, the advantages of each method used in brainstorming, and examples of brainstorming techniques, such as mind mapping, using new or existing techniques, magnifying the strengths of the issue at hand and reducing/eliminating weaknesses, adopting a creative approach to solve problems, role-playing, debating to generate new ideas, as well as the technique known as association of ideas, and curiosity as an essential rule of brainstorming.
